Our
new kickball league is being named in memory of Adam Ross.
Adam
was an incredible human being with great spirit, knowledge, and accomplishments,
who died in January, 2008 at age 36 from melanoma. Adam grew
up in Long Island, NY and received his bachelor’s degree from the University
of Michigan. Subsequently, during his last year at Johns Hopkins Medical
School, Adam was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma. He took off one
year for surgery and therapies and then completed his residency in Otolaryngology
at the University of Pennsylvania. His calling brought him to OHSU to complete
a fellowship in Facial Reconstructive and Plastic Surgery. He loved
Oregon, spent time skiing at Mt. Hood, visited local wineries, and had
many friends and acquaintances here.
Adam
was an outstanding scholar, athlete, human being, son and husband. He
participated in almost every sport, with a particular love for tennis,
hockey, skiing, and especially golf. His favorite sport was football
and he enjoyed many Saturday afternoons rooting for the University of Michigan
Wolverines.
He
survived for 11 years with multiple recurrences and treatments. During
his short life he was able to help many patients with reconstructive facial
surgery as the Director of Facial Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery at the
Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. Adam would have
hoped for every person to live his or her life to the fullest as
he did.
