Is there an info session?
There was one…but more questions
can be asked over e-mail, by phone, or in person at the Ice Skating Social.
When is registration due?
Ideally, by Friday, April
24. You can turn in registration and
payment at the Ice Skating Social on Sunday, May 31st, as long as you have
RSVPed in advance.
Who is eligible to participate?
Jewish kids/teens in grades 5-12, as of May, 2009.
What do I have to do to register?
Fill out the registration form, sign the waiver, and mail those documents and a check (made out to Portland Maccabi Club) to Jodi Berris/Portland Maccabi Club; 6217 SW 33 Pl.; Portland, OR 97239.
What sports are being offered?
Tennis, track, swimming, table tennis, 3v3 soccer, 3v3 basketball, bowling, golf, dance, floor hockey, racqueball, and chess.
Will 5th graders play against 12th graders?
No. Sport divisions will be broken down into Jr. Maccabi (grades 5-7) and Sr. Maccabi (grades 8-12)
Do boys and girls play together?
Although practices will be combined, most likely, competition will be divided into girls and boys divisions.
Are you still looking for coaches?
We're covered at this point, but if still interested, please be in touch with Jodi.
How much does it cost to participate and what does that include?
$36 – includes Portland Maccabi Club T-shirt, all practices, socials, and competition.
How will the sport rules and tournaments be set?
They will be determined in July by the Portland Maccabi Committee and the sport coordinators/coaches.
What events will be done at the swim and track meets?
TBD.
Will there be singles and doubles in tennis and table tennis?
TBD.
Will chess be divided by grade or by level?
TBD.
How will the dance competition work?
TBD.
What are the sport venues?
JCC: Soccer, basketball,
swimming, chess, dance, table tennis, racquetball, floor hockey
Valley Lanes: Bowling
Golf-TBD
Can I play 2 sports?
No. Sport competitions will be going on simultaneously, so playing 2 sports is not possible. You can, however, attend the practices of a second sport...or even a 3rd sport.
If I am playing 3v3 soccer or 3v3 basketball, can I choose my team?
Yes. Please indicate that on the registration form.
Why would my first choice sport not be available?
There needs to be a sufficient number of registrants per sport to make it worthwhile for both the athletes and coaches. Depending on the number of athletes that sign up for certain sports, if there are too few, then the sport will be canceled and you will compete in your second choice. If this happens to your second choice sport as well, you will compete in your third choice sport.
Is the Portland Maccabi Club accepting donations?
Yes. Please contact Jodi if you’d like to make a tax deductible donation.
Can I participate if I can only make it to some of the practices and socials?
Yes. Come to what you want and can.
Can I participate if I can make some or all of the social and practices, but not the actual competition day?
Definitely. Join in on whatever you can attend and just let us know if you won’t be there on competition day.
When are the socials?
Kickoff Barbeque – April 26th;
7:30 pm
More details will be sent closer
to event date.
Will the food be kosher at the Ice Skating Social?
Yes. All food served throughout the Portland
Maccabi Club program will be strictly kosher and under the supervision of the
Oregon K hechsher.
Will PMC events every take place on Shabbat or Jewish Holidays?
Never.
Do family members need to
pay extra for the Ice Skating Social?
Yes. Only PMC members are covered for this event.
Will there be competition uniforms?
No.
How many practices will I have and when will they be?
That will be determined by the sport coordinator/coach. He or she will be in touch with you.
Will there be a tournament day opening ceremony and closing ceremony?
Yes. Details TBD.
Are volunteers needed?
Yes. Please contact Jodi if you’re able to help out on tournament day or at any of the socials, or as a coach.
Who can I contact with questions?
E-mail or call Jodi.
